πŸš€1. Getting Started

When you first open Dly, you will see a short onboarding screen. Enter your name and email β€” this is stored only on your device and never sent to any server.

After onboarding, you land on the home screen with five tabs at the bottom:

TabWhat it does
πŸ—‚ PoolYour idea backlog β€” capture tasks you'll plan later
βœ… TasksToday's (and any day's) task list
πŸ”₯ HabitsDaily/weekly habits with streaks
πŸ“Š AnalyticsDaily, weekly, and monthly productivity reports
βš™οΈ SettingsPreferences, backup, theme, and more
Tip: All your data lives on your device. No internet required to use Dly.

βœ…2. Tasks Tab

Navigating dates

The date strip at the top lets you swipe left/right to move between days. Tap any date to jump to it. Tap the calendar icon to pick a specific date. Tap Today to return to the current day.

Creating a task

1
Tap the + button (bottom right) to open the Add Task screen.
2
Enter the task title (required).
3
Fill in any optional details: date, start time, duration, category, priority, notes.
4
Tap Save.

Priority levels

High β€” urgent, must do today   Medium β€” important but flexible   Low β€” nice to have

Completing a task

Tap the circle checkbox on the left of any task card. The title gets a strikethrough and the task is marked done. For recurring tasks, only that day's occurrence is marked complete.

Progress card

At the top of each day's list, a progress bar shows how many tasks you've completed out of the total for that day. The percentage updates in real time as you complete tasks.

Reordering tasks

Press and hold the grip icon (β Ώ) on the left of a task card, then drag it up or down to change the order. This only applies to tasks without a specific start time.

Recurring tasks

When creating a task, turn on Repeat and choose a recurrence pattern:

Tip: Completing a recurring task only checks off that specific day β€” it will appear again on the next occurrence.

Carry-forward

If you don't complete a task today, it can automatically appear on tomorrow's list with a Carried Forward badge. Enable this in Settings β†’ Carry forward incomplete tasks.

Subtasks

Open any task β†’ tap Add subtask to break a task into smaller steps. Each subtask has its own checkbox. The task card shows a 2/5 subtasks chip when subtasks exist.

Task detail screen

Tap anywhere on a task card (not the checkbox) to open the detail screen. From here you can:

πŸ—‚3. Pool (Backlog) Tab

The Pool is your idea backlog β€” a place to capture things you want to do someday without cluttering today's task list. When you're ready to work on something, plan it to a specific date.

Adding a pool item

1
Tap a category section to expand it.
2
Type in the "Add item…" field at the bottom of that category.
3
Press Enter or tap the send icon.

Editing an item title

Tap directly on the item's title text β€” it switches to an inline text field. Edit the name and press Enter (or tap outside) to save.

Planning an item to a date

Tap the calendar icon (πŸ“…) on the right of any item. This opens the Add Task screen pre-filled with that item's title so you can schedule it for a specific day.

Marking an item done

Tap the circle icon on the left to check off an item. Checked-off items are shown with a strikethrough. You can uncheck them at any time.

Subitems (nested tasks)

Pool items support a full tree of subitems β€” useful for breaking down a big project:

Categories

Pool items are organised by category. Tap the + Add category button to create a new one. You can reorder categories by dragging the grip icon. Tap a category header to collapse or expand it.

Deleting an item

Tap the trash icon on the right of any item. You'll see a confirmation prompt before deletion.

Tip: The Pool is great for "someday/maybe" ideas β€” things you don't want to forget but aren't ready to schedule yet.

πŸ”₯4. Habits Tab

Habits are recurring activities you want to build consistency around β€” like drinking water, exercising, or reading. Unlike tasks, habits track your streak and completion history.

Creating a habit

1
Tap the + FAB button (bottom right).
2
Enter a habit name (e.g. "Drink 8 glasses of water").
3
Pick an icon and colour.
4
Set the frequency (daily, specific days of the week).
5
Set a goal (e.g. 8 glasses per day) if the habit is a count-based habit.
6
Optionally add reminder times.
7
Tap Save.

Completing a habit

On the habits screen, each habit shows a completion circle. Tap it to log one completion. For count-based habits (e.g. glasses of water), tap multiple times or use the +1 button in the notification to log each unit.

7-day strip

Each habit card shows the last 7 days as small circles β€” filled (βœ“) for days you completed it, empty for days you missed. This gives a quick visual of your recent consistency.

Streak

Your current streak (consecutive days completed) is shown on each habit card. Completing the habit today keeps your streak alive. Missing a scheduled day resets it to 0.

Show in Tasks

Enable "Show in Tasks" when creating or editing a habit. This makes the habit appear as a task in the Tasks tab on its scheduled days β€” so you can see and complete it from your task list without switching tabs.

Reminders

Add one or more reminder times to a habit. You'll get a notification at those times on the days the habit is scheduled. For count-based habits, the notification includes a +1 button so you can log a completion directly from the notification without opening the app.

Editing or deleting a habit

Tap on a habit card to open its detail/edit screen. Scroll down to find the Delete option.

πŸ“Š5. Analytics Tab

Analytics shows how you're spending your time and how productive you've been. There are three views: Daily, Weekly, and Monthly.

Daily view

Weekly view

Monthly view

Tip: Analytics counts time on the day a task is completed, not the day it was scheduled. Complete tasks on time to keep your analytics accurate.

πŸ’Ύ7. Backup & Restore

Dly stores all data locally on your device. To make sure you don't lose your tasks, habits, and categories if you switch phones or reinstall the app, use the built-in backup feature.

2
Tap Export Backup.
3
A .json file is generated. Choose where to save it β€” Google Drive, WhatsApp, email, or local storage.
